Detective Ellie Danson is a vice cop at the Tenth Precinct in Lower Manhattan, assigned to work the area's red light districts, targeting pimps and the sex workers they run in the West 20s. She is frustrated however by the lack of professional opportunities–and respect–that her job currently offers to her. Then a serial killer begins targeting victims in the Meatpacking District, and suddenly the 'big break' that she's been pining away for while working The Row, is sitting right in front of her.
It Runs in the Family
Ellie is the daughter of a cop, Deputy Inspector John Danson, who was killed on 9/11. She often looks at his medals on her bookshelf, wondering if she'll ever get the chance to earn any herself. He didn't want her to become a cop, but after college, she decided on a career in law enforcement in part as a way to honor his memory. While they were often at odds during her adolescence, over her grades in high school, where she wanted to go to college and over who she dated, the sudden shock of his death on that fateful day has filled her with a lifetime of regrets about what she didn't say to him before his passing.
Love on Hold
There's never enough time in the day for Ellie and her boyfriend Jay to enjoy one another's company. She's always catching another body, or he's always catching another trial, which makes the few moments that they do spend together that much more important.
